Jimmy Johnson, who became the first man to win a college football championship and a professional football championship as a coach, is a graduate of the BetterTrades system and has learned how to trade the market. Because of his association with BetterTrades, Jimmy Johnson understands how it is possible to make his own trading decisions.
Jimmy Johnson is also one of the popular announcers on the Fox NFL Sunday pregame and postgame show, where he shares the spotlight with Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan and studio host Curt Menefee. The program is based in the studios in New York, but often goes on-site during the NFL playoffs.
The Jimmy Johnson legend began when he was hired as head coach at Oklahoma State University in 1979 after spending many years as an assistant coach for other programs. After taking the Cowboys to a pair of bowl games and establishing a winning program at the school, Johnson was lured away by the University of Miami. The Hurricanes had lost coach Howard Schnellenberger after their national championship season in 1983 when he decided to pursue an opportunity with the new U.S. Football League.
Johnson's first team at Miami was okay, but over the next four seasons the team was a contender for the national championship. The Hurricanes won at least 10 games in each of Johnson's next four years and were in contention for the national title the final three years. Jimmy Johnson led the Canes to the NCAA championship in 1987, when they went 12-0 and won an exciting Orange Bowl game over then-No. 1 Oklahoma. In Johnson's final season the Hurricanes were beaten by underdog Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl for the national championship.
Jimmy Johnson then moved on the NFL, where he became coach of the Dallas Cowboys and replaced legendary coach Tom Landry, who had been the only coach in franchise history. Dallas took their lumps in its first season under Johnson, who inherited a team that was too young at key positions and too old at others. In a stroke of genius that would later symbolize his success, he made the better trade of sending star running back Herschel Walker to the Vikings in exchange for draft picks and veterans. The bold trade enabled Dallas to restock its talent base and make a faster move toward the playoffs. Dallas made it back to the playoffs in 1991 and won the NFL Championship in 1992 and 1993, beating the Buffalo Bills for the title each year.
Jimmy Johnson left the Cowboys after the second championship and worked as a TV analyst for three years, when the Miami Dolphins courted him to return to his adopted hometown. He spent four years as coach there, where he replaced legendary coach Don Shula, and never had a losing season. But the Dolphins never won a playoff game under Johnson, either, and he resigned to return to Fox.
Since then, Jimmy Johnson has made frequent appearances at BetterTrades events, such as the Traders Super Summit and the BetterTrades company meetings.
